Another step towards a Circular Economy
See the images and read here the message from Chef Miguel Cerqueira about our new step towards Sustainability - The Composting Center
"We currently have a mini composting 'centre' which is located behind the Craveiral Farmtable.
This is our COMPOSER . For those who are not familiar, this is our machine that will transform part of our organic waste from our FARM, into organic fertilizer material to be used as fertilizer for our flora in Craveiral.
It's a historic moment.
With this, we will be able to achieve, for those of us who belong and are Craveiral, and we are going even further to meet one of our great goals, which is to be sustainable and try to leave a world (perhaps São Teotónio and our beautiful Vincentian coast) a little best.
All of this is only possible if we all get involved in this topic and that's why I'd like to explain to you (synthesized) the routine that is implemented for composting.
• Our composter decomposes 50kg of organic matter, (in this 1st phase) coming from Craveiral Farmtable, every 2 days.
• We will add 25kg of organic matter daily and remove compost every two days.
• The compost removed will have to rest for 6 days until it can be used as fertilizer for the land.
• For now I will be responsible for adding organic matter daily and gradually I will appoint different people to do it with me until we have all experienced it.
• It is more important than ever that the different waste is separated and that we take the utmost care with other waste that is NOT organic and that can be mixed with this organic compound.
Another small step towards realizing the vision of circular economy and sustainability."
